I've been partnered for 2.5 years, I have configured and streamed esports tournaments for hundreds of thousands of viewers, and I currently have streaming servers setup all over north america. I am always looking for better settings to make my stream even higher quality than it already is. I have been helping people to YouTube and stream for 5+ years, and at last I am rolling out some guides (including a dual streaming guide coming soon). I have hesitated to do any guides on OBS because there ARE SO MANY already, but still I find missing and very inaccurate information. I also found that everyone is a self-proclaimed expert on settings (:D ), and everyone has their own 'Best Settings for Twitch'.
After all these years, now I am going to break down what the settings mean, and give you the knowledge to make your own 'Best Settings'. Let me know what your settings are in the comments (I will include those concerns and advise in the next videos). In the next video I will do OBS, then partnered vs. Non-partnered settings, and finally dual-PC streaming and making your own streaming server (for mobile and private streams). The Guide to make it POP (pop part at end):. Keep in mind that these settings are for partnered streamers. Streamers who are not partnered are gonna have a hard time running these settings and keeping viewers.
The MAX bit rate twitch wants you to use 3500. Anything above and beyond that breaks Twitch's cap. If you do this you can be subject to BAN.
Happened to a friend of mine. Just use these settings at your own risk.
Aside from that if you are a partner these are great. Also newer streamers should check out his mic settings video with adobe audition. It helped me a ton. Thank you for the feedback. I have good news and bad news.
Bad news first, this is exactly the kind of misinformation that is going around Twitch. There is no cap. If you exceed recommendations, there are scenarios where this could be considered abuse of the system. Thus recommendations are needed to prevent excessive use or abuse so we can all have an enjoyable experience.
No actual cap exists. We have tested around the world and confirmed. You would be surprised at how high you can go (WAY beyond 3500 as non-partner).however too high is unreasonable and may be abuse of the servers, besides less people can watch at super high rates.
Its a good idea to play it safe and stick with the recommendations (like said in the video). Lets stick with the facts, it might not be a good idea to stream at a high bitrate for many people, but it is possible.
Now the good news, non-partnered streamers CAN stream at 3500 if they want. However, many have found their viewers have trouble when they dont have the option of quality pulldown menu (eg mobile users). Finally, There is no need for a disclaimer, follow the guides recommendation for lower bitrate and VBR if you have trouble. Non-partners have reported great luck with 3100-3300Kbps for 1080.
Always listen to your viewers if they have trouble viewing.

I’ve spent basically all of 2017 researching, scripting, revising, shooting, and producing this course, and I’m quite proud of what it’s become. This should be a fantastic all-in-one reference guide with the software, with just minimal updates required for new features.
This course will primarily focus on the Windows version of OBS Studio. I have some minor points that reference differences with macOS and Linux setup, but I cannot currently go in-depth with those versions at this time. Also, this video is available in a full 4K UHD 60 frames per second format. This will give you not only the best visual quality, but the best clarity for viewing text and settings menus.
